Abstract<\/h2>\n

Remote laboratories are online learning environments that allow students to conduct experiments and laboratory practices remotely and without time constraints via the internet, instead of having to be physically present in a physical laboratory. In these environments, students can access specialised laboratory equipment and tools from anywhere in the world, using an internet connection and a web browser.<\/p>\n

Microelectronics is the fastest developing science and represents the foundation of the e-economy and e-society, so lifelong learning is crucial. In the age of nanotechnology, an integrated approach is needed, a new partnership between education and work to address the need for synergy between education and industry, to foster the development of competences, technological and soft skills for new jobs in microelectronics.<\/p>\n

The ECoVEM project brings together VET institutions, polytechnics, industry associations and social partners to establish a European cooperation platform for professional excellence in microelectronics to address the challenges of digitalisation, artificial intelligence, green technologies, gender equality and technology, and the integration of migrants. In this vein, remote laboratories, apart from offering a wide range of benefits, provide the possibility of access to expensive and sophisticated equipment that is not available in all educational institutions, and the ability to provide a hands-on and realistic learning experience in a wide range of disciplines. They can also offer greater flexibility in terms of scheduling and location, allowing students to complete laboratory practicals in their own time and from anywhere in the world.<\/p>\n

Bio<\/h2>\n

F\u00e9lix Garc\u00eda Loro<\/strong> holds a PhD in Engineering; a Master’s degree in Electrical, Electronic and Control Research, and a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Electronics and Control Engineering from the Escuela T\u00e9cnica Superior de Ingenieros Industriales (ETSII) of the Universidad Espa\u00f1ola de Educaci\u00f3n a Distancia (UNED), 2018, 2014 and 2008 respectively. He currently works as a researcher and Assistant Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Control, Telematics and Chemistry Applied to Engineering (DIEECTQAI) of the UNED. He has collaborated and collaborates in numerous research projects as well as author in prestigious journals and conferences.<\/p>\n

Dr. Garc\u00eda Loro is a senior member of the IEEE. He is a member of the IEEE Education Society, the IEEE Consultant Network, the International Association of Online Engineering (IAOE) and the IAOE Global Online Laboratory Consortium (IAOE\/GOLC). He also actively collaborates with the IEEE Student Branch of UNED as treasurer and vice-president since 2015. He is a professional member of the IEEE HKN Student Society par excellence.<\/p>\n

Bio<\/h2>\n

Elio San Crist\u00f3bal Ruiz.<\/strong> PhD in Electrical, Electronic and Control Systems Engineering from the Escuela Superior de Ingenieros Industriales de la UNED. He also holds a degree in Computer Engineering, specialising in Software Engineering, from the Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca (UPS) and a degree in Technical Engineering in Computer Systems from the same University.<\/p>\n

He is a Professor at the UNED, in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Control, Telematics and Chemistry applied to engineering of the E.T.S. of Industrial Engineering.<\/p>\n

His research activity focuses on the field of Internet, Education and Telematics. He has participated in numerous European projects. Currently, he participates in the following projects: Go-Lab – Global Online Science Labs for Inquiry Learning at School – FP7-ICT-2011-8 – Project number 317601. FP7 programme (research action), of the European Union. And MUREE – Modernising Undergraduate Renewable Energy Education: EU Experience for Jordan 530332-TEMPUS-1-2012-1-JO-TEMPUS-JPCR.<\/p>\n
