Abstract<\/h2>\n

Education has gone through transformative changes since the launching of Massive Open Online\u00a0<\/span>Courses (MOOCs). The impacts of MOOCs go beyond just the offering of courses and content.\u00a0<\/span>New pedagogies have been developed using MOOCs. MOOC platforms also allow vast amount\u00a0<\/span>of data to be collected on the study patterns of diverse groups of students from around the\u00a0<\/span>world. Learning analytics on MOOCs allow teachers to better understand how students learn\u00a0<\/span>and how the delivery of teaching and learning can be improved. In this talk, the speaker will share\u00a0<\/span>HKUST’s experience on using MOOCs and learning analytics to enhance the learning experience\u00a0<\/span>of students on campus through blended and experiential learning.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bio<\/h2>\n

Professor Ting-Chuen Pong is a s<\/span>enior advisor to the executive vice-president and provost, d<\/span>irector of the Center for Engineering Education Innovation and professor of Computer Science and<\/span>\u00a0Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). He is a founding\u00a0<\/span>faculty member of HKUST, where he had served as the associate vice-president for Academic\u00a0<\/span>Affairs, associate dean of Engineering and director of the Sino Software Research Institute.\u00a0<\/span>Before joining HKUST, he was an associate professor of Computer Science at the University of\u00a0<\/span>Minnesota. He received his PhD in Computer Science from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and\u00a0<\/span>State University. His research interests include computer vision, multimedia computing and IT in\u00a0<\/span>Education. He is a recipient of the Pattern Recognition Society Award in 1990 and the HKUST\u00a0<\/span>Excellence in Teaching Innovation Award in 2001. In 2014, he led the HKUST team in the\u00a0<\/span>Wharton-QS Stars Awards Competition and was selected winner of the Natural Sciences Award\u00a0<\/span>and runner-up of the Hybrid Learning Award.<\/span><\/p>\n
