Nelson Piedra es docente-investigador de Ciencias de la Computaci\u00f3n en la Universidad T\u00e9cnica Particular de Loja (UTPL), Ecuador. Actualmente es el Director del Instituto de Investigaci\u00f3n en Ciencias de la Computaci\u00f3n en UTPL. Su investigaci\u00f3n actual se centra en diversos aspectos de la web sem\u00e1ntica, los datos vinculados a Internet de las cosas, bigdata, an\u00e1lisis de redes sociales, los sistemas de recomendaci\u00f3n personal, y la inform\u00e1tica m\u00f3vil. Su trabajo se basa tanto en el \u00e1mbito de educaci\u00f3n superior (accesibilidad, interoperabilidad y usabilidad de OCW\/REA, contenidos educativos, sistemas de aprendizaje a distancia) como en la dimensi\u00f3n t\u00e9cnica (representaci\u00f3n del conocimiento\/data, ciencias de la computaci\u00f3n, la inteligencia artificial). Nelson Piedra es un miembro de la UPM-GICAC (Grupo de Innovaci\u00f3n en la Gesti\u00f3n de Calidad de Centros Universitarios).
