Los procesos cognitivos, afectivos, metacognitivos y motivacionales juegan un papel crucial en la capacidad de los estudiantes para monitorear y regular su aprendizaje mientras usan tecnolog\u00edas avanzadas de aprendizaje (ALT) de manera precisa, din\u00e1mica y efectiva. Estos procesos se detectan, modelan, infieren utilizando an\u00e1lisis de datos multimodales y se utilizan para proporcionar un andamiaje inteligente y adaptable y un aprendizaje de retroalimentaci\u00f3n mientras usan ALT. Sin embargo, a pesar de los avances de los investigadores interdisciplinarios en inteligencia artificial (IA) y an\u00e1lisis de datos multimodales, quedan muchos desaf\u00edos y oportunidades conceptuales, te\u00f3ricas, metodol\u00f3gicas, anal\u00edticas y pedag\u00f3gicas. Tambi\u00e9n es profesor afiliado en los Departamentos de Ciencias de la Computaci\u00f3n y Medicina Interna de la Universidad de Florida Central y cient\u00edfico principal de la Iniciativa del Grupo de Facultades de Ciencias del Aprendizaje. Recibi\u00f3 su doctorado en Psicolog\u00eda Educativa de la Universidad McGill y complet\u00f3 su formaci\u00f3n postdoctoral en Psicolog\u00eda Cognitiva en la Universidad Carnegie Mellon. Su principal \u00e1rea de investigaci\u00f3n incluye examinar el papel de los procesos de autorregulaci\u00f3n cognitiva, metacognitiva, afectiva y motivacional durante el aprendizaje con tecnolog\u00edas de aprendizaje avanzadas (p. ej., sistemas de tutor\u00eda inteligente, hipermedia, multimedia, simulaciones, juegos serios, entornos de aprendizaje virtual inmersivo). M\u00e1s espec\u00edficamente, su principal objetivo de investigaci\u00f3n es comprender las complejas interacciones entre los humanos y los sistemas de aprendizaje inteligentes mediante el uso de m\u00e9todos interdisciplinarios para medir los procesos cognitivos, metacognitivos, emocionales, motivacionales y sociales y su impacto en el aprendizaje, el rendimiento y la transferencia. Para lograr este objetivo, realiza estudios de laboratorio, aula e in situ (p. ej., simulador m\u00e9dico) y recopila datos de m\u00faltiples canales para desarrollar modelos de interacci\u00f3n humano-computadora; examina la naturaleza de los procesos de autorregulaci\u00f3n y otros procesos de regulaci\u00f3n que se desarrollan temporalmente (por ejemplo, agentes humanos-humanos y humanos-artificiales); y dise\u00f1a sistemas inteligentes de aprendizaje y capacitaci\u00f3n para detectar, rastrear, modelar y fomentar los procesos de autorregulaci\u00f3n de los estudiantes, docentes y capacitadores. Ha publicado m\u00e1s de 300 art\u00edculos revisados \u200b\u200bpor pares, cap\u00edtulos y actas de conferencias arbitradas en las \u00e1reas de educaci\u00f3n, aprendizaje, ciencias cognitivas, educativas y computacionales. Fue el ex editor de la revista Metacognition and Learning y es miembro del consejo editorial de varias revistas de ciencias cognitivas y aprendizaje de primer nivel (p. ej., Applied Cognitive Psychology, International Journal of AI in Education, Educational Psychology Review, European Journal of Psychological Assessment ).
