Abstract

It is complex to carry out a truly inclusive education that at some point or aspect does not segregate students with disabilities or predispose them to drop out. Continuity in training and access to higher education for people with functional diversity is one of the issues that generates the greatest concern in families and professionals, which is increased by the few experiences that can serve as a reference. What we find in common in all the success stories is that people have had adequate prior guidance, as well as the necessary support within the university context.

The increase in the prevalence of autism has generated a scenario in which a high number of people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) are accessing higher education, which poses new educational and social challenges. On the other hand, the Universities are promoting inclusive initiatives so that students with Intellectual Disabilities can access training in a normalized university context. We present the results of inclusive initiatives and Projects that try to give opportunities to all students and in which the entire Community is involved, in their progress towards achieving Universities of excellence through Inclusion.

Doctor from the University of Burgos (Spain). She has a degree in Psychology. Degree in Pedagogy (Special Education). Master of Human Resources. Counselor on leave. Professor at the University of Burgos (Spain). She has exercised her professional activity in different fields of private and public companies. She has 4 recognized six-year terms, and numerous publications in indexed magazines and books. She has directed 17 doctoral theses, and participated in more than 20 research projects, as well as in numerous national and international conferences. She has held different management positions as Vice Dean, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Education and Coordination of the Degree in Pedagogy at the University of Burgos. She directs the DISCONDU Recognized Research Group “Intellectual Disability and Behavior”, and the TEACHING INNOVATION GROUP of the University of Burgos: Innovation, Inclusion and Research. Her lines of interest are orientation, disability, employment, new technologies and intergenerational relationships.
