«Emergence of the Online-Merge-Offline (OMO) Learning Wave in the Post-COVID-19 Era»

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic revealed the need for new innovative methods to effectively  maintain education in times of crisis and uncertainty. This presentation first presents  the Online-Merge-Offline (OMO) learning approach, a way of learning that caters to  the new needs of students and teachers in the post-COVID-19 era. OMO learning  utilizes a hybrid infrastructure that combines Open Educational Practices and real-time  learning spaces, both online and offline. This presentation then discusses several OMO  learning case studies using ClassIn platform from public Chinese Universities during  three months. It also presents early results from three dimensions, namely space design  requirements, technological considerations, and pedagogical considerations. 

Bio

Dr. Ahmed Tlili is the Co-Director of the OER Lab at the Smart Learning Institute of  Beijing Normal University (SLIBNU), China. He has been awarded the IEEE TCLT  Early Career Researcher Award in Learning Technologies for 2020. Dr. Tlili is the Editor in Chief of the Springer Series Future Education and Learning Spaces. He also serves as the Associate Editor of the IEEE Bulletin of the Technical Committee on  Learning Technology, and the Journal of e-Learning and Knowledge Society. He is also  an expert at the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization  (ALECSO). Dr. Tlili is the Co-Chair of IEEE special interest group on “Artificial  Intelligence and Smart Learning Environments” and APSCE’s Special Interest Group  on “Educational Gamification and Game-based Learning (EGG)”. His research  interests include open education, game-based learning, educational psychology and  artificial intelligence.
