Abstract

In a moving and also transformative space as distance education, the speed of change entails certain problems. The first one has to do with the obsolescence of resources and materials, as well as the learning dynamics and methodologies. But, extremely linked to these elements, it also appears the one of quality, always dependent upon the context and the impact of the results. It should be added to all this mediated nature of on-line pedagogy: The intermediation of audiovisual and technological tools adds another variable to the concept of quality, the one of the level of production and the use of technology. In recent years there have been huge efforts to detect, prescribe and guide programmatically that quality, especially in the MOOCs environment (CRUE, UCATx, MOOCKnowledge Project reports, etc.). In all of them the paradox of the value of what is quantifiable lies through the numerous data analytics provided by distance education. And this discourse brings us back to inveterate scientific debates on quality in other massive contexts, especially television. This paper aims to reflect on the concept of quality in MOOCs, how to measure it and what to take care when it comes to quality. The talk will stress with emphasis on the experience of Pompeu Fabra University.
