Conference about innovative experiences on technology and autism, at URJC

The Rey Juan Carlos University (URJC) celebrates a «Conference on Technology and Autism» on november 13 with the aim of disseminating some of the innovative experiences carried out as the result of the collaboration between these two areas. The meeting, located at Vicálvaro Campus (Madrid), at 10 am, will welcome all kind of audience: students and professionals interested in the application of technologies to groups with disabilities, relatives or guardians of people with TEA. Researchers from different universities will participate in the conference to share their experiences. Besides the URJC (LITE, Laboratory of Information Technologies in Education), will be the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid Madrid (AmiLab, Environmental Intelligence Laboratory) and the U-tad (University Centre of Technology and Digital Art), but also professionals from different special education centres such as Alenta or AUCAVI Foundation. Participants will be able to learn about different technological initiatives aimed at people with autism, professionals or family members.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), one of every 160 children has an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Symptoms start to develop during the childhood and tend to persist into adolescence and adult life. Some people with ASD can live independently, but there are others with severe disabilities who need permanent care and support throughout their lives. And that’s why it’s so important to share these experiences that can have a positive impact on the well-being and quality of life of people with ASD.
