Abstract

Presentation of the main activities, works and results done for the creation, organization and delivery of a MOOC through the IEEEx channel in EdX. The MOOC development involved 10 researchers from 5 different universities (UNED, UPM, Vigo University, Miguel Hernández University  and Northumbria University) and 3 video studios for the recordings (UNED, Vigo and Northumbria University). The MOOC topic was «Foundations to Open Education and OERs repositories».

Bios

Electrical and Computer Engineering professor in the Spanish University for Distance Education (UNED) has a doctoral industrial engineering degree from the ETSII/UPM, is expert in Applications of Simulation and Electronics in Remote Engineering and in Technology Enhanced Learning. Has been vicerector and is director of the Department at the UNED. He co-chaired the conference FIE 2014 (Frontiers in Education Conference) in Madrid, Spain, by the IEEE and the ASEE as well as TAEE 2010, EDUCON 2010, REV 2016, EDUNINE 2017 and in 2018 of the LWMOOCs. He is fellow member of IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), president emeritus of the IEEE Education Society and is director-elect of the IEEE Division VI. 

Doctor by the Department of Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Control of the School of Industrial Engineering at UNED in 2010. He holds a degree in Computer Science Engineering, in the field of Distributed Applications and Systems, at UC3M (Universidad Carlos III de Madrid). Technical Engineer in Computer Science, Specialized Systems, by UPM (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid). He has been teaching subjects related to digital electronics and microelectronics since 2007. And he has participated in research projects related to mobility and environmental intelligence, location and wireless networks, as well as in projects related to e-learning, remote and virtual laboratories and new technologies applied to teaching, since 2002.

Edmundo Tovar holds a PhD in Computer Science from UPM (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid) and is a tenured lecturer at the ETS of Computer Science Engineers at this university in the area of Government and Information Systems Management. Works in the management, research and promotion of Open Educational Resources (OER). He has served as an elected member of the OpenCourseWare Consortium board of directors (2009-2013), and as executive director of the UPM OCW Office (2008-2012). It is currently a member of the UfM’s Office of Open Education. He is a member of the board of governors of the IEEE Education Society (2007-2014), and is currently vice president for Educational Activities and Awards of the IEEE Education Society.
