Edmundo Tovar, Ramón Llull National Computer Science Award 2022
(Madrid, May 24, 2022) Edmundo Tovar, member of the eMadrid Network and coordinator of the GICAC group at the Polytechnic University of Madrid, has received the Ramón Llul National Prize for Computer Science, awarded by the Spanish Computer Science Society and the BBVA Foundation. A recognition that seeks to value his career in research and promotion of open education through multiple national and international projects. The jury highlights “his commitment and dedication to international organizations related to computer engineering education, which have resulted in the organization of events of great international impact, and in the participation and dynamization of educational forums.”
Edmundo Tovar is also president of the IEEE Education Society. The IEEE Education Society is considered the most important educational reference in IEEE Region 8 (Europe, the Middle East and North Africa) and is in charge of organizing events of special relevance, such as EDUCON.
Edmundo Tovar’s career is extensive and his research interests include fields such as open education, e-learning or learning technologies. He has served as associate dean of Quality and Strategic Planning and as executive director of the Office of Open Education at the Polytechnic University of Madrid. In addition, he is executive director of the Office of Open Education at UPM and vice president of educational activities of the IEEE Education Society.
