Abstract
The report “Serious Games” commissioned by the Conference of Directors and Deans of Computational Computer Engineering (CODDII) research group e-UCM and the components of the Chair Telefónica-Complutense Digital Education and Serious Games will be presented. It will be a short introduction to serious games and it will present an overview of the same from the point of view of application such as research. It also will describe how the field of educational games is an emerging niche work. The report can be downloaded here.
Bio
Baltasar Fernández-Manjón is Professor in the Faculty of Computer Science at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UM). He holds a PhD in Physics (specialty automatic calculation) by the UCM. He is currently director of the research group on e-learning e-UCM and Director of the Telefonica-Complutense Digital Chair in Education and Serious Games. His main research interests are the technologies for e-learning, educational standards and applications of educational games and simulations (or serious games), issues on which has published over 180 articles in international journals and conferences. He has previously been Vice Dean of Research in the Faculty of Computer Science and academic director of computer studies at CES Felipe II of Aranjuez. During 2010-2011 he was Visiting Associate Professor at Harvard University and Visiting Scientist at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Fernández Manjón is IEEE Senior Member. He has participated in numerous European research projects in various programs (FP7, LLP) and is currently involved in projects H2020 RAGE and BEACONING on serious games.
