«Experimental environments based on remote and virtual laboratories development/exploitation: RELATED»
Rafael Pastor VargasUNED
Abstract
The use of remote and virtual laboratories is a reality in the teaching of engineering careers, as well as in different professional environments. The development of this type of resources is directly associated with individualized projects, which do not take into account the management services of these shared resources, which leads to integration methods with other types of services and the consequent effort/cost of growth. Nor do they take into account the possible “federation” of services and laboratories with a common definition and use methodology. In this way, and in order to meet these objectives, RELATED will be shown as a rapid framework for the development of remote/virtual laboratories, as well as their exploitation through transparent integration with resource management services: authentication /access, experimental data storage, resource access control (reservations and access tokens) and work tracking (sessions), among others. The presentation shows the characteristics of the framework (based on standard SOAP and REST Web services) and examples of its use in various environments, and in particular, in the academic environment corresponding to the UNED information technology degrees.
The GoLab project has remote laboratories as the main element, but not the only one. Thus, this project combines: didactics, technology, organization and community. The presentation will show these integrative aspects from the point of view of remote laboratories and their exploitation and use.
